Our Story

While working as a collision repair technician, our founder, Will Morrison, was constantly thinking about ways to improve the repair process. Every difficult repair, awkward sanding job, or custom tool modification became another opportunity to design something better.

In 2023, Will built the first prototype of what would become the Three Inch Taco Block.

The idea came from a simple problem: there wasn't a sanding block designed for tight repair areas such as sectioning joints, outer panels, and stamped body lines. Technicians often had to hand sand these areas or improvise with tools that weren't designed for the job, costing valuable time and sacrificing consistency.

The Three Inch Taco Block solved that problem.

After placing prototypes into the hands of fellow technicians, the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Over the next three years, the design continued to evolve through real-world shop testing while Will worked to build the foundation for Shop Hound Tool.

The Three Inch Taco Block is only the beginning. It represents the first of many innovative products designed to solve everyday problems faced by collision repair professionals.

Meet Our Founder

Will Morrison's journey into collision repair began on his very first day of high school.

During his four years in a collision repair Vo-Tech program, he completed his apprenticeship, restored his first vehicle—a 2001 Jeep Cherokee—earned I-CAR Platinum recognition, competed in SkillsUSA at the national level, and eventually worked as a production technician before graduating.

Those experiences shaped more than his technical skills—they fueled a passion for improving the collision repair industry.

Throughout his career, Will noticed a common theme. Skilled technicians were constantly fabricating custom tools or modifying brand-new ones just to complete repairs efficiently.

Instead of accepting that as "the way it's always been," he decided to build better solutions.

That decision became Shop Hound Tool.

The Journey

2019–2021

Will entered the collision repair industry by washing vehicles before quickly advancing into teardown work and learning the trade under experienced technicians. During this time, he purchased and restored his 2001 Jeep Cherokee, affectionately named Christine, while developing a passion for both restoration and collision repair.

As his high school collision repair education progressed, he earned numerous I-CAR certifications and continued developing his technical skills.

2022

Will competed in his first SkillsUSA competition, earning first place in the Central Carolina Regional competition and third place at the North Carolina State Championships. As he approached I-CAR Platinum status, he accepted an opportunity to work independently as a technician at a new collision repair facility.

2023

This proved to be a breakthrough year.

Will earned I-CAR Platinum recognition while continuing to produce high-quality repairs in the shop. He also captured first place at both the North Carolina Central Regional and North Carolina State SkillsUSA competitions before finishing fifth in the nation.

That same year, he created the first prototype of the Three Inch Taco Block—the product that would eventually launch Shop Hound Tool.

Later that year, Will relocated to Midland, Michigan, to attend Northwood University and pursue a degree in Automotive Aftermarket Management while continuing to work in the collision repair industry.

2024–2025

During the summer of 2024, Will worked for an ADAS calibration company, gaining experience in vehicle diagnostics, electrical systems, and advanced driver assistance technology. The position also allowed him to visit collision repair facilities across multiple markets, gathering valuable feedback from technicians and identifying additional opportunities for innovative tool development.

Later that year, Will attended the SEMA Show for the first time, further expanding his understanding of the automotive aftermarket.

In 2025, he returned to his former collision repair shop for an internship focused on business operations, where he gained experience in estimating, repair planning, production management, and customer service.

Will also returned to the SEMA Show in 2025, partnering with Detroit Steel Wheel Co. to assist with content creation throughout the event.

2026–Present

With years of hands-on collision repair experience, business education, and direct feedback from technicians across the country, Will officially launched Shop Hound Tool.

Today, the company continues developing innovative specialty tools that solve real problems in collision repair—because the best ideas come from the people doing the work every day.
